What Is Horse Fence?
A horse fence is a type of fence that is specially designed to contain horses and prevent them from injuring themselves or others.Lorem ipsum dolor sit ament, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt labore et dolore magna aliqua. it enim ad minim veniam.
Types of Horse Fence
This is a traditional and attractive option that offers a natural look and a solid barrier. Wood fence can be made of various types of wood, such as pine, cedar, or oak, and can be painted or stained to match the surroundings. Wood fence requires regular maintenance to prevent rotting, warping, splintering, or cracking, and may need to be reinforced with wire or electric tape to deter chewing or cribbing.
This is a modern and durable option that offers a low-maintenance and weather-resistant alternative to wood. Vinyl fence is made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) plastic that is molded into rails, posts, and boards that resemble wood. Vinyl fence comes in various colors and styles and can be easily cleaned with soap and water. Vinyl fence is more expensive than wood fence, but may last longer and require less upkeep.
This is a versatile and economical option that offers a flexible and adaptable barrier. Wire fence can be made of various types of wire, such as barbed wire, woven wire, high-tensile wire, or electric wire. Wire fence can be installed on different types of posts, such as wood, metal, or fiberglass, and can be adjusted to fit different terrains and shapes. Wire fence requires periodic tightening and inspection to prevent sagging, rusting, or breaking, and may need to be covered with boards or rails to increase visibility and prevent injuries.
This is an effective and convenient option that offers a psychological deterrent rather than a physical one. Electric fence consists of wires or tapes that are connected to a charger that delivers a mild electric shock when touched by an animal. Electric fence can be used alone or in combination with other types of fence, such as wood or wire, to enhance security and prevent escape. Electric fence requires minimal maintenance and can be easily moved or modified, but may not work in areas with poor power supply or extreme weather conditions.
The Advantages of Using Vinyl Fencing For A Horse Pasture
Fencing is arguably the most important part of designing and building a pasture. It ensures that a spooked horse will be contained and also helps to prevent outside dangers from entering the pasture. So why should you trust vinyl fencing to protect and contain your herd?
Strength
Our vinyl fencing is reinforced with aluminum, making it stronger than wood! It goes without saying that any horse fence needs to be able to withstand kicks, shoves, and pressure. The strength of a vinyl fence won’t fade over time.
Flexibility
In addition to being strong, a good horse fence needs to be flexible. Why? When a fence has a bit of “give”, it helps to prevent serious injury when a horse runs or is pushed into it by others in the herd. Flexibility also makes it less likely to break upon impact.
Vinyl fencing is four times more flexible than wood while still providing the strength needed to maintain a barrier.
Vinyl Is Low Maintenance, Durable, and Long Lasting
Vinyl is a great choice for horse fencing because it’s durable and low maintenance. Unlike wood, it won’t ever absorb water or oils. Vinyl will never rot or rust. It doesn’t attract insects that could cause damage. It won’t ever splinter, peel, or crack.
Painting and staining become a chore of the past when you install a vinyl fence. Simply wash down the rails with a hose or power washer to leave the fence looking fresh and new!
Easy to Install
Are you looking to save on installation costs by installing your own fence? Then vinyl is likely the right choice! It’s lightweight and easy to handle. Each vinyl fencing kit available at Plastic Lumber Yard can be put together quickly once the posts have been properly secured.
Vinyl Fencing Can Be Electrified
In some cases, a fence needs to be electrified. On a metal or wood fence, insulators need to be installed to provide attachment points for the hotwire. However, these insulators aren’t needed on a vinyl fence because vinyl is naturally an excellent insulator! This makes installation even easier and more affordable.
Cribbing Resistant Fencing
Every horse owner knows that cribbing can be harmful for a horse. Horses commonly crib on wood stall doors and in pastures where they are kept for long periods of time. Horses don’t typically crib on plastic or vinyl, helping to curb this habit or to help prevent younger horses from starting in the first place. Not only is this beneficial for their health, it also results in less damage to the fence.
Fire Resistant Fencing
A fire in any barn or field is a farm’s worst nightmare. Unlike a wood fence which would feed a fire, vinyl fencing is naturally slow to ignite, fire retardant, and self-extinguishing.
Vinyl Fencing Is Highly Visible
A good horse fence is one that is highly visible, ensuring that a horse will see it before they run into it.

Before You Start to Install the Ranch Railing Fence
- Develop your budget plan
- Check if you need a license to establish a horse fence in your area.
- Contact your local utility company for information.
- Read the instructions below
Required Tools
- Post Level (it is used to check if the two planes of the column are vertical)
- Special cutting tool for guide rails
- 100 foot tape measure
- Manual digging machine plus 12 inch power auger
- Nylon rope spools and some wood or heavy poles
- Hammer and saw (plywood blades are best)
- Spray paint to mark holes for digging (silver or fluorescent)
Established on Hills Or Slopes
If you build a fence at a slope, you can cut the track to 8 feet so they allow the height to be changed. In special cases, you may need to use wiring holes. In general, the smoother the transition, the better it looks. So if the land suddenly transitions from a plane to a slope, the fence needs to change its angle accordingly, resulting in a better appearance.
Spread the Work
- Draw a work layout and calculate the corner posts you need, the number of posts and "T" posts.
- Use a rope and peg to create a fence line that allows 2 1/2 inches from the string to the center of the column. Mark "X" with 100 feet of tape and paint, each of which will be drilled. Remember that the column is set at 8 feet in the center and the rail is 16 feet long. So if you are turning, you may need to cut the rail into a circular area that is 8 feet long.
Installation Post
- Drill a 30-inch deep hole using an electric auger at each "X" and clean the hole with a handle hole digger.
- Pour a few quarts of water into the hole with a column, pand then put a few quarts of water on it. Let it settle for a few minutes and then backfill the holes with mud. Check the plumbness of the column during backfilling. If you need to adjust the position near the string, always use your foot at the bottom of the column. Do not push or pull the top of the top.
Installation Diagram
Posts are set at 8 ft on center and the rails are 16 ft long. This means the rails go through every other post. After you have several posts installed you will need to check the tops of the posts to be sure that they are set at the right depth. If your terrain is irregular it is important to remember that all transitions should be gradual and flowing to create a professional looking installation. For this reason it is best to set your reference posts first and then gradually adjust to them.
The suggested height of the reference posts is:
2 Rail : 30 in. in ground, 38 in. above ground.
3 Rail : 30 in. in ground, 54 in. above ground.
4 Rail : 36 in. in ground, 60 in. above ground.
Installing the Rails
The 16 ft. rails go through every other post. To create a strong fence it is important to “weave” the fence as follows: For 3 rail fence cut an 8 ft. rail and with four notches on each end insert it into the post as the second rail. For a 4 rail fence do the same with the bottom rail. Then run the 16 ft. rails for the remainder until you get to the end of the run.
(For Heritage only, Remember to put 4 notches in each end of each rail).
It is best to let the cement cure for 24 hours before setting the rails. If you are terminating at a gate post duct tape the end of each rail before inserting into post. Wipe off excess cement and glue on the caps with a PVC cement.
Installing the Gates
Insert the steel bars into each door post and fill with wet concrete. Before filling, make sure all door hardware is installed on the column. Wait 24 to 48 hours for the cement to solidify before hanging the door.
How to Clean A White Vinyl Fence?
Remove Light Soil and Debris With a Garden Hose
For light soil and debris, spray the fence with water. A garden hose with a spray nozzle should do the trick. You can use a pressure washer, but in most cases, that’s more power than you need.
Remove Heavier Stains With Mild Soap
If the fence still looks dirty or discolored after a spray-down, fill a bucket with warm water and a squirt or two of soap. A mild soap such as dish soap or castile soap will work. Use a soft rag or sponge to wash the fence. Rinse, and let the fence airdry.
Treat Mold Or Mildew With Vinegar
Mold and mildew look gross on a previously pristine white vinyl fence. If the fence still has black or green stains after applying the soap, add 1/2 cup of plain white vinegar to the bucket and re-wash by hand. Vinegar kills mold and mildew and slows its return.
