If you are looking for a durable, low-maintenance, and attractive fencing option for your home or business, you might want to consider a PVC fence. PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, a type of plastic that is widely used in construction and manufacturing. PVC fences are made of vinyl panels that are attached to metal or wood posts, creating a strong and flexible barrier that can withstand weather, insects, and impact.

Common Parts of Vinyl Fences
Posts
Posts are the vertical support posts that hold the vertical pipe and form the fence structure. A vinyl fence post may be made of wood, concrete and steel. In general, the utilization of a steel post is not advised as steel posts do not hold up well against the weather. If you are fencing in an area subjected to a lot of rain, you should have the posts made of concrete. Types of Posts:
1)Line Posts: Line posts are the same length as the fence’s cross-bars, typically four or five feet tall.
2)Gate Posts: Gate posts are the same length as line posts. However, they will have a much larger diameter and are typically spaced between sixteen and eighteen feet apart.
3)Corner Posts: If you are building an L-shaped fence, the corner posts are placed on the inside corner of the L, directly across from each other. These are typically made of the same material as the line posts.
4)End Posts: If you are building a square or round pen, you will find the use of corner posts beneficial. However, end posts are required outside the pen. These posts can be made of the same material as the line posts.
Pickets
Picket fences comprise vertical wood slats that cross each other in an X shape. These are most commonly made of cedar, naturally rotting and insect resistant.
In addition, cedar pickets resist swelling from moisture and swell from dryness, making them an ideal fencing material. Standard pickets are usually between 2 ½-3 ½ inches wide and come in 6, 8, 10, 12, or 14 feet in length.
Rails
Also known as horizontal boards, rails are attached to the post and cross the vertical pickets. They are typically made of pressure-treated wood or vinyl coated for long-lasting use. The vinyl coating does not rot and is an excellent option for coastal regions!
Different Styles of Vinyl Fence
Vinyl Privacy Fence
Vinyl privacy fencing provides privacy and a decorative element to your landscaping. Vinyl privacy fence is one of the most popular types of privacy fence. Vinyl privacy fence is built using panels that are 8' wide and 6' high. While white is a popular color you can also find tan, brown, gray and even black vinyl. Combine colors for a two- toned look. You can also get vinyl fence panels with decorative tops to add some style to your fence.
Semi-Privacy Vinyl Fence Panels
Semi-privacy fence offers a compromise between affording some privacy and still
allowing airflow. Semi- privacy Vinyl fences use several different designs. The simplest version uses Vinyl fence panels that look similar to a full privacy fence but with small gaps between the pickets. The other main option is a shadowbox style fence. These are built with alternating boards across the back and front (also called a "board on board" or "good neighbor" fence) to give the fence the same look on both sides. The gaps between the boards do not line up so some privacy is maintained. Both sides appear identical so they are ideal for neighboring backyards.
Vinyl Lattice Fence
Vinyl lattice fences offer some privacy with easy and cost- effective installation. Vinyl lattice has a smooth surface and a typical thickness of .25 inches. Vinyl lattice will resist insects, mold, and mildew and requires little maintenance. As compared to wood lattice Vinyl lattice will not rot, crack, peel, or become brittle. Please note that vinyl lattice is distinct from plastic or polyethylene lattice. Injection molded plastic lattice is only .15 inches thick. Plastic lattice is more vulnerable to to temperature expansion and contraction than vinyl. Also, mold and mildew will grow on plastic vinyl so regular cleaning will be needed.
Vinyl Picket Fence
Picket fence is one of the most popular fence types. The vinyl picket style was created specifically to replicate the classic painted (white) wooden picket fence. Vinyl picket fencing is made up of posts (in 6ft to 8ft intervals), two horizontal rails, and pickets in varying widths. It is a bit different from privacy fencing in that it is more for aesthetics and defining boundaries. Vinyl picket fence is a functional and classic addition to any yard. Landscapers and home owners love the look and appeal of a clean white Vinyl picket fence. Most vinyl picket fencing is offered in 3ft to 5ft heights.
Vinyl Post and Rail Fence
Vinyl post and rail fencing (also called "split rail" or "ranch rail") white typically found on farms and ranches can also be found in the suburbs. These types of fences are made with 2, 3 or 4 Vinyl rails and Vinyl posts. Vinyl rail fencing is strong enough to keep large animals contained. Vinyl post & rail is the perfect solution for agricultural fences, housing developments, and other large businesses. Vinyl post and rail fences look better and last longer than the wood or barbed wire fences of the past. And the best part is they do not have to be continually painted and repaired like the older fences. Also, check out the new HDPE options for horse and livestock fencing.
Horizontal Vinyl Fence
Horizontal vinyl fencing takes popular styles of fencing and mounts the pickets horizontally. Privacy and semi- privacy fence panels are available in horizontal styles. The contemporary styles of horizontal fences is increasing in popularity.
Advantages of Using PVC Fence
Beauty
Vinyl fencing provides a beautiful, crisp appearance similar to wood. Vinyl fences can be functional and useful or elegant and upscale, depending on your desired use and style preferences. Vinyl fencing retains its look consistently over years even in the harmful rays of the sun, and its look won’t change drastically over time due to wear and weather conditions.
Variety
Vinyl comes in a wide variety of styles and colors to match or complement your existing home or outbuilding. You can select a bright white vinyl fence for a fresh, clean wooden picket fence look. Or you can select a darker color vinyl for the look of an elegant stained wooden fence. You can install a low vinyl fence to accent a beautiful garden, or a tall vinyl fence for security around a swimming pool.
Easy to Install
Vinyl fencing parts are specifically fabricated to fit and click together, so fencing is easy to install quickly.
Easy to Clean
If you may have mold and mildew from moisture or shady conditions, vinyl fencing can be easily cleaned with your garden hose and a little soap.
Low Maintenance Fencing
Vinyl fences do not require painting, sealing or staining, or much routine annual maintenance or refinishing. They don’t scratch, do not rust, and they do not attract insects. They do not rot, or expand or contract due to changing weather. They are extremely long-lasting, easily standing for years with very little attention.
Privacy and Security
Vinyl fences afford privacy unlike iron or aluminum fences. They come in a variety of fence heights and privacy options so that you can have varying degrees of privacy and security.
Strength and Flexibility
Vinyl is actually stronger than wood. When it comes to battling harsh winds, for example, vinyl is flexible and holds up extremely well to high-velocity wind zone areas prone to damaging hurricanes.
Value
Vinyl fencing is quicker and easier to install than iron or aluminum fences. That, along with its low maintenance over the years, equals tremendous value. Vinyl fencing provides the best of both worlds: functionality at a tremendous value.

How to Install Vinyl & PVC Fence?
Dig Holes for Your Fence Posts
Use either a power auger or a hand post-hole digger to dig holes that are 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter. Post holes should be deep enough to hold 1/3 the length of your post, plus 6 more inches for a gravel base.
If you don't have an auger or digger, you can rent a power auger at a home improvement store, or you can dig them with a shovel, though it'll take a lot longer.
Place the Fence Posts One at a Time
Once you've dug the holes for the posts, the next step is to install each post securely before connecting them with the vinyl sections. Always defer to the manufacturer's instructions for installation, but generally its recommended to install posts secured with gravel and concrete.
1)Insert a 2 foot (61 cm) long 4" x 4" or 5" x 5" and use 1.5 in (3.8-4 cm) screws on at least two sides to secure the post to wood. Place the post into hole on gravel base and then pour concrete into hole and evenly around entire post. Stop six inches (15 cm) below ground level to add soil for grass when concrete is cured.
2)Check to make sure the pole is plumb using a level, and move on to the next post hole. Continue installing all the posts and return to the beginning and make sure it's seated level again.
Slope the Concrete
Use a trough to scrape any excess concrete away from the posts so that the concrete slopes down away from the pole. This prevents water from pooling around the pole. Let the concrete dry completely.
Install the Vinyl Fence Sections Between Each Post
Generally, vinyl fence sections snap right into place. Follow the specific manufacturer's directions regarding vinyl fence sections, as some may slide halfway into the post. Attach the rails to the ends of each section with screws, if necessary, and then secure the rails to the posts in the ground.
Pre-drilling a pilot hole before installing your rail screws can be helpful and may be necessary.
Attach the Vinyl Post Tops With the Hardware Provided
Again, defer to the manufacturer's instructions. Generally, most vinyl fence kits will come with decorative toppers for the posts that you can snap on.
Easy Ways to Maintain a Vinyl Fence
Regularly Wash the Vinyl Fence
As mentioned earlier, vinyl fences are usually fairly easy to clean. However, you should make it a point to wash the vinyl fence to keep them looking good regularly. You can either do this with a hose or a pressure washer.
This can be particularly handy during the summer and winter months when the elements get pretty intense. This way, you can help prevent the buildup of mold and algae around the fence.
Remove All Traces of Mold and Mildew
Mold and mildew are two elements that could cause your vinyl fence to look nasty. They can also cause other issues like making the vinyl splotchy or eventually making the vinyl weak. To help prevent this, you should take the necessary steps to remove mold and mildew from the vinyl fence.
You can use a scrub brush and some soap to remove them. If the mildew is deep, you might want to consider using a pressure washer to help remove it. In some cases, you can use bleach or even vinegar.
Cut Any Overhanging Tree or Plant Branches
Overhanging branches from trees or plants can cause your vinyl to be scratched and dented. This will make them look ugly and also cause your vinyl to break easier. To help prevent this from happening, it would be good to trim any overhanging branches before any damage can occur.
Besides helping maintain the vinyl, it can also prevent accidents. Overhanging branches could cause your vinyl fence to fall, so you should take the necessary precautions.
Stick to a Regular Inspection Schedule
Even though it’s possible to restore vinyl with a bit of maintenance, you should still have a regular inspection schedule. If you spot any damage early, you can make repairs before they get worse.
Inspecting vinyl fences regularly is especially important during bad weather. During bad weather, the dents and scrapes can quickly become permanent if left untreated.
Don’t Place Dirt and Gravel on the Vinyl Fence
If you have dirt or gravel near your vinyl fence, you should try your best not to place them directly on them. Some homeowners will place small pebbles or stones on the vinyl fence so that children and pets can’t reach the fence.
However, placing the dirt or gravel directly on the vinyl can cause damage to the fence. Over time, the dirt or gravel can get stuck to the vinyl, leading to the vinyl tearing. This can also cause the vinyl to become splotchy.
Fix Any Damage Immediately
You should always fix any damage immediately. This is because even slight wear can lead to bigger problems. If there are dents or scratches in the vinyl fence, you should fix them using a vinyl fence patch kit.
Vinyl fence patch kits are relatively cheap and easy to use, but you should still use caution. Applying too much pressure on the patch can cause the vinyl to crack, and you should also make sure that you are using the right tools for the patch.

Customize Gates and Fence Layout
Single walk gates are hinged on one side with a latch on the other and are best for walkways for bikes, pets, and people. Single-walk gates are common for pool fences and should be self-latching, self-closing, and hinged to swing outward to make it harder for a child to enter while latched.
